On 15 January, 2021, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) launched successfully IPv6 for Gov Program for the period of the 2021-2025, setting the central goal of 100% government agencies deployed IPv6 by 2025. Viet Nam Internet Network Information Center is assigned to take the lead the program. The conference was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung, Deputy Minister of MIC and held online at 63 Provinces, Cities across the country. On this occasion, the Deputy Minister also honored who has contributed greatly to IPv6 transition in Viet Nam.

Viet Nam is an outstanding example of pioneering to deploy IPv6 in the region
Before setting the new chapter of IPv6 deployment in Viet Nam, on behalf of Minister of MIC, Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung has awarded Certificate of Merit by Minister of Ministry of Information and Communications and Medal by Viet Nam National IPv6 Task Force to 23 organizations (07 government agencies amongst MIC, 05 Departments of Information and Communication, 11 ISPs and Enterprises) and 58 individuals who has achieved excellent results in implementing Viet Nam National Action Plan on IPv6 in the period of 2011-2019.

Over the past 10 years (2011-2020), accomplishing the national plan on IPv6, Viet Nam has achieved impressive results in IPv6 deployment. By the end of 2020, the number of users using IPv6 services in Viet Nam exceeded 34 million people and Viet Nam’s IPv6 adoption growth reached 46%. There are 33 Provinces, Cities and 4 Ministries, Branches issuing IPv6 action plan.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung emphasized his proud of Viet Nam’s IPv6 deployment results that made Viet Nam rank the second place in ASEAN, the fourth place in Asia and the 10th in the world in IPv6 deployment.

100% government agencies deployed IPv6 by 2025
With the aim to ensure IPv6 deployment in Viet Nam continue to grow, in all aspects, specially reaching high adoption in content services and government agencies’ networks and services, MIC officially launched the IPv6 promotion program named IPv6 for Gov Progam for the period of 2021 – 2025, assigned VNNIC as Chair of the Program.
“With the new spirit, MIC and VNNIC is ready to coordinate, guide and support and join hands with local government agencies in the journey of IPv6 transition.”

At the launching event, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, Director General of VNNIC had share some priority tasks and goals of the program:
- 50% Ministries, Branches issue IPv6 Deployment plan and deploy IPv6 in portals and e-services by 2022.
- 100% Ministries, Branches, Provinces and cities issue IPv6 Deployment plan; 100% Ministries, Branches complete their IPv6 deployment in their network and prepare for IPv6-only network by 2025.
- Viet Nam government agencies’ IPv6 adoption rate reaches 70-80% by 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang also noted that VNNIC compromises to initiate effective works and solutions to support government agencies and remove difficulties in their IPv6 deployment, ensuring the progress of plan.
With the pioneering efforts of the MIC, VNNIC, organizations and enterprises over the past 12 years, Viet Nam has gradually asserted its position in the region and the world in transitioning Internet to IPv6. It is hoped that Viet Nam will continue to get greater achievements in IPv6 deployment in the next chapter, shaping the foundation for building digital infrastructure towards digital government development in Viet Nam.
