APRICOT 2017 hosted for the first time in Viet Nam (27/02/2017)

Under the support of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Viet Nam and Vietnamese hosts – Vietnam Network Information Center (VNNIC), Viet Nam Internet Association (VIA) and NetNam Corp, APRICOT 2017 was co-organised by APIA and APNIC from 20th February to 3rd March 2017 at Sheraton Hotel, Hochiminh city. Conference sessions were operated by famouse keynote speakers in the Internet community, such as Phillip Smith, Tim O’ Reilly, Avi Freedman, Paul Wilson... The content focused on many specific technological trends such as the furture of Intenret, IPv6 deployment, Internet security, IoT, Internet resources,…

Mr. Phan Tam, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Viet Nam, attended and deliver the welcom speech at the APRICOT Opening Ceremony. “Viet Nam has been an active member in Intneret community to improve the development, stability and security of the network to meet the requirements of an industrial revolution”, said the Deputy Minister.

Also in APRICOT Opening Ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, Deputy Director General of VNNIC, talked about the evolution of Viet Nam’s Internet. According to his presentation, despite of limitation of infrastructure since 1997 when Viet Nam employed Intenret at the first time, Viet Nam remains one of the world ‘s 20 countries with highest growth rates on Internet development from 2000 to 2016. According to APNIC’s Internet statistics, the total number of active Intenret users in Viet Nam reached about 50 millions in 2016 (which makes up 60% of Viet Nam ‘s population).
