Official Vietnam IPv6 Launch (May 6th 2013)

On May 6th 2013, Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) – Standing Committee for Vietnam IPv6 Task Force hosted the Conference “Vietnam IPv6 Day”, on behalf of Ministry of Information and Communications, at Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel, Hochiminh city. Following the success of the first national IPv6 event of Vietnam in 2012 – the conference “IPv6 – Technology & Applications for Vietnam” on May 31st and June 1st – Vietnam IPv6TF decided to recognize it as an annual event and May 6th would be Vietnam IPv6 Day.

The official events of “Vietnam IPv6 Day 2013” included a workshop on “IPv6 & Security” topic on May 4th and 5th, and the main conference “Vietnam IPv6 Day” on May 6th. One of the remarkable sessions of the conference was the “Vietnam IPv6 launch”, joined by Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), VNNIC, and major ISPs in Vietnam in order to officially introduce the websites, services and products based on IPv6 to the public. Some of the representatives in the launching ceremony were from Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, Viettel Group, FPT Telecom, NETNAM Company, Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC) and Saigon Postel.

Besides MIC, major ISPs and IT companies who registered their IPv6 websites and services on, the official site of “Vietnam IPv6 Launch”, another organizations and institutions could also be found, such as French Hospital of Hanoi, Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi, etc.. Other websites and information would be found on the website.

The conference attracted the participation of approximately 500 representatives from local authorities and the IT sector, policy makers, international experts, equipment and service providers. This should be a great opportunity for the Vietnam Internet community to improve the knowledge of IPv6 deployment; encourage the production of IPv6 compliant equipment; display new technology and applications; and update the technology and application trends of IPv6 at the moment and in the future.

At the conference, speakers from international organizations (both institutions and enterprises), VNNIC and Vietnamese businesses such as VNPT, FPT, Viettel, Netnam,…presented to the attendees about the actual situation of deploying IPv6 all around the world and in Vietnam. Besides, the policies and strategy to push the application of IPv6 were also discussed among the policy makers and authority in order to support the deployment among businesses under the context of international collaborations.

 In 2013, Vietnam IPv6TF expected to enter the second phase of the National Action Plan of IPv6, and would continue the promotional activities, including “Vietnam IPv6 Day”, together with building and improving national IPv6 network; applying IPv6 in business; bringing the contents of IPv6 into the regular education program of Electronics, Telecommunications majors in Universities; and building standards of terminal equipment.

Mr. Le Nam Thang – Deputy Minister of Ministry of Information and Communications – Header of Vietnam National IPv6 Task Force (IPv6 TF) said at the conference: “According to the route of transforming IPv4 to IPv6 approved by Ministry of Information and Communications in the National Action IPv6 Plan, the year 2013 is considered to be a very important year, starting the second phase of the Plan – the Starting period. The conference “Vietnam IPv6 Day” 2013 will help resolve current difficulties, and provide the opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to exchange and study the management, technology, and motivating experiences of the international IPv6 deployment”.

The conference “Vietnam IPv6 Day” is one of the important and meaningful events of Vietnam in general and of Information and Communications field in particular in 2013. This activity would contribute to the cooperation, development and integration of the Telecommunications, Information Technology and Electronics fields in Vietnam towards the world.
