VNNIC hosted “Digital Resources – Opportunities and Challenges” session at Internet Day 2017 Conference

To commemorate for the 20th anniversary of the Internet in Viet Nam with great achievements, Viet Nam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) co-organized with Viet Nam Internet Association (VIA) to hold Viet Nam Internet Day 2017 conference on 22nd November, 2017 at JW Marriott Hotel, Ha Noi. VNNIC contributed to this event in hosting a session on “Digital Resources – Opportunities and Challenges”.

Nowadays, with decreasing gap between Internet and legacy Telecommunications, its creating a digital transformation trend. The migration of Telecom networks and Internet, the evolution of Telecommunications technologies like digital signal, digital numbering system, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and big data etc., are dramatically changing our lives and economics. Therefore, this migration in the 4th industrial revolution will set great challenges for both government and the industry to select tools or solutions to manage the data.

Mr. Tran Minh Tan, Director General of VNNIC, delivered the opening speech sharing his views on “The creation of Internet in the 70s” which marks huge advancement for humanity in general and particularly in communication systems. However, the separation between Internet and public Telecommunications previously made some problems. By discussing those problems, this session provided background information on the explosion of digital resources in the smart cities and then to find better solutions to make digital transformation in ICT enterprises a great success!

Mr. Tran Minh Tan delivered the opening speech

The session was moderated by Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, Deputy Director of VNNIC, debating hot topics within the scope of digital resources:

  • Big data in smart societies

Speaker: Mr. Dao Dinh Kha, Director General of Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC)

  • Using big data for digital transformation in enterprises

  • Using big data to develop solutions against targeted attacks and advanced threats

  • Data culture in banking

Mr. Dao Dinh Kha shared his opinion about "Data Culture"

The definition and the importance of “Big Data” and “Data Culture” were highlighted in this session. According to Mr. Dao Dinh Kha’s opinion, in E-economics, if data was petroleum, data analytics technologies would be petroleum refinery. Big data helps enterprises to generate data, get the comprehensive view and uncover new insights about business. As a result, it can maximize the process of production.

In conclusion, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang summed up that digital transformation breaks through all limits and brings benefits to enterprises. So digital transformation is essential and will become a prominent trend in the future. However, it will face many challenges in Viet Nam because of the lack of awareness, no data standardization and legal framework. Before adopting any solutions and technologies to process and analyze data, Viet Nam should solve these challenges. Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang recommended a two-step process:

1. Viet Nam government should raise awareness and build knowledge by implementing development policies and organizing training programs for all operators, engineers and users.

2. Viet Nam government must ensure safeguarding intellectual property rights and build legal framework for creating, storing, sharing and securing data by the agencies and operators.
