On July 22nd 2016, Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) hosted the annual Open Policy Meeting (OPM) 2016 in Hanoi office, with remote participation via teleconference of Danang city and Hochiminh city. The meeting was well attended by nearly 200 participants who are the representatives of VNNIC’s IP members including government authorities, ISPs, CSPs, financial institutes etc.
The meeting was consisted of two parts: the plenary and discussion sessions. The plenary session focused on the update of management and development policies of IP addresses in Vietnam; experiences in deploying IPv6 by local ISPs, and sharing of ICANN and APNIC representatives about global trends and policies regarding Internet resources.
The discussion attracted more attention from the participants as questions could be raised to either VNNIC, ICANN, APNIC or other participants, as long as they were related to the topics of Internet address management and usage. The most asked topic was the transfer of IPv4 from abroad into Vietnam by local enterprises, which was just officially approved by legal regulations with expectation to help members resolve the situation of lacking IPv4 addresses while IPv6 implementation would be supposedly insufficient.
Besides, VNNIC, in collaboration with APNIC and ICANN, hosted a workshop on DNSSEC from July 19th to 21st 2016, with the participation of more than 20 engineers and staff of government authorities, ISPs, CSPs, .vn accredited registrars. The workshop was conducted by Champika Wijayatunga, APAC SSR Manager, ICANN and Sheryl Hermosso, Senior trainer, APNIC.
